Partnership with The Remakery

At Homes for Life we recognise the growing pressure our tenants are under to be online. They report the stress and strain this pressure can cause, the fear of missing out (FOMO) or being left behind. Whether it is the pressure to use apps in supermarkets to take advantage of the best offers and lowest prices, accessing essential websites / apps for their benefits, banking or utility accounts or being able to connect with family and friends.

We know many people experience feelings of loneliness and isolation at some point in their life, and that connection, talking and support help reduce these feelings. Getting online is a great way to find connection. Opportunities to connect face to face aren’t always possible, perhaps due to mobility, transport barriers, social anxiety or busy lives which don’t leave much time to socialise.

This is why we have partnered with The Remakery, an Edinburgh based social enterprise who receive donated laptops which they refurbish and pass on to people who don’t have access to their own device.

As well as receiving a laptop we can help you set it up and access free basic IT courses (if required).

We are excited to be able to provide laptops to tenants who are not online and would struggle to purchase their own device (subject to eligibility and availability).

For information or to apply for a laptop please email caitlin.rodgers@homesforlife.co.uk or Text or Whatsapp: 07394 801 595

Irene's Story

Homes for Life tenant, Irene, aged 85, was the first to receive one of these laptops. She lives alone and though she has frequent visits from her family, she doesn’t get out much due to her health.

She says “Receiving the laptop will let me into another world. I can get in touch with people, do my shopping, find things out, if there’s something I’m curious about I can learn more. I’ve tried to save up for a laptop, but something always happens, meaning I need to use the money for something else. I love knitting and can’t wait to explore knitting patterns online. Thank you to Homes for Life and The Remakery, you don’t know how much this means to me”
