Paying My Rent

Your rent is payable monthly in advance and is due on the first of each month. It might be possible for your rent to be paid at other intervals but this needs to be agreed by Homes for Life.

There are SIX ways you can pay your rent - please see them HERE

If you are unable to pay your rent for any reason you must contact the office immediately.

Homes for Life Housing Partnership strives to prevent rent arrears by means of home visits and negotiated repayment schemes. Our Rent Arrears Policy aims to provide a firm but fair commitment to reducing rent arrears, taking into account your personal and financial circumstances.

It is important that you come to some form of arrangement to clear your debt. All cases are treated sympathetically and we will not impose unrealistic repayment schemes.

If you are not receiving Housing Benefit it is always worth checking if you qualify. You can call the Housing Benefit section of East Lothian Council on 01620 827827 or click here to use a Benefit Calculator. If you are having problems managing your finances you may wish to discuss this with your Citizen's Advice Bureaux, Haddington 01620 824471, Musselburgh 0131 665 2248 or with the Welfare Rights Team, Musselburgh 0131 665 3711 who can give you confidential advice.

Should you fail to co-operate in bringing down your arrears the Company will take legal action to recover the debt and you may lose your tenancy.

For further information, see the following Debt Recovery Policy.

Ways to pay my rent

We use and now to collect rent.

There are SIX ways that you can pay your rent:

Payment Outlets
You can pay your rent in the following payment outlets with your allpay card - see more information here.

Telephone Payments - 0844 557 8321's automated voice recognition software for payment by telephone has secure and authorised payment processing at it's core. This service allows customers to make a payment from a mobile or landline 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Dial the system on 0844 557 8321 then listen carefully to the instructions. (If you make a mistake you will be transferred to a member of's customer service team, during normal office hours. PLEASE NOTE THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DISCUSS YOUR RENT ACCOUNT OR BALANCE WITH YOU. THEY DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO YOUR ACCOUNT AND ARE ONLY ABLE TO TAKE DEBIT PAYMENTS.)

Internet Payments -'s own secure online bill payment service is another payment option that is available to use 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, making it even easier to you to pay your rent.

There is no complicated registration process and no commitment to use the service on a regular basis. The online payment system is designed to be as flexible as all of's other payment options.

Making a payment online couldn't be simpler; you simply need your allpay swipecard and a debit or credit card. Currently accepts payments from cards displaying the Mastercard, Visa, Delta, Maestro (Switch) and Solo logos.

Direct Debit

This is our preferred method of payment. You can set up a Direct Debit which means that your rent will be deducted direct from your bank account either weekly, fortnightly or monthly. All payments made by Direct Debit are guaranteed - this means that in the unlikely event a payment is made in error, you will receive a full and immediate refund.

The costs of collecting rents through Allpay have escalated considerably over the years since we first introduced this service. Our preferred method of collecting rent is through Direct Debit which costs on average £1 per transaction instead of £5 through Callpay. We are asking tenants to only use Callpay for one off payments and not as their regular form of payment. If they wish to make payments by telephone, we would ask that they use the Allpay telephone service by contacting telephone payments on: 0844 557 8321. You'll need an allpay no. to use this service. If you do not have an Allpay card and would like one please contact the office.
To use Callpay, use your debit card by calling us on 01620 829300 or coming in to the office.
